An Australian Classic
A movie focused on a dog and a bunch of penguins will surely trigger curiosity in people of all ages, and sure to entertain. In addition, as the movie is based on a true story from Australia, we should be looking at a blockbuster.
The movie is inspired by a lovable character named Allan “Swampy” Marsh and his affectionate dog Oddball. Popular actor Shane Jacobson plays Swampy and delivers as always with his original style of humor. Based in the southern part of Australia, Warnambool is often visited by penguins, which is why there are many sanctuaries there. The wild penguin sanctuary featured in this movie was frequently attacked by foxes which prompted Swampy, a local chicken farmer to act. Oddball being a Maremaa guardian dog was originally used to protect chickens from local foxes. Now he was being called upon to protect the penguins at the sanctuary who were quickly becoming extinct at Middle Island due to foxes swimming over and killing the penguins . Of course, the story is a little bit deeper and through Swampy and Oddballs effort’s to save the penguins he is also trying to save and reunite his family. Swampy’s granddaughter is absolutely amazed by Oddball and the penguins and helps out.
However success didn’t happen overnight in fact it took 4 years for them to get it right using other dogs along the way as they were trying something that had never been done before.
