Glittery Dancing Explosion!

Like most Dance Schools we have an end of year Concert, which we call an “Explosion!”
We try to keep the concert pretty low key with only one show so that it is as easy and painless as possible, no long hideous rehearsals, no late night shows with children waiting backstage till 11pm at night.
The Explosion is performed in a smallish theatre so as not to be too daunting.

This is not meant to be a professional show, just a chance for each class to get up and show off what they have learned during year.
Each class performs a dance as best-est they can, getting as sparkliest as they can whilst having as much fun as humanly and as humanely possible!!

From about midway through 2nd Term we start to introduce dance routines for the Explosion.
Each year we have a different theme and base the dance and costume on the theme.

Our 2 to 3 year old classes have a day when we invite Mums, Dads, Grandmas and Grandpas into their studio, where they can watch what they do in a class and then be enthralled with their fantastic little dance!
We find that performing on the stage is too overwhelming for the very little ones.
We donÂ’t want to freak them out!!

Costumes

ItÂ’s hard to keep the cost and hassle of costumes down, but we do try very hard to keep them simple yet bright and colorful.
Some parents like to jump in and help make the costumes, and some like to have them made by a seamstress (at their cost) or by grandma!

We have quite a few costumes that we will hire to the classes where they suit the theme of their dance.

Dress Rehearsal

We have a dress rehearsal on the stage the weekend before the concert.
Each class is given a time slot and 15 minutes to run through their dance several times in costume to get used to the size of the stage, the floor and what it feels like to be wearing their fab costume.

If students are in several dances we try to slot their rehearsal
times close together (as best I can) so that they donÂ’t have to wait all day.
But even if you have to wait a little bit you get to watch other
classes and see what they have been doing.

The “Finale” is rehearsed in the middle of the day so that there is not too much waiting around.
